Tom Baker
Wiggle / Wrong / Brique Rouge / London
Like with many of his contemporaries it was the explosion of the heady acid house movement across London in the late 1980s that was to be the decisive influence over Tom Bakers musical direction. His earlier years growing up had been influenced by his family of Jazz musicians, and these new sounds pulsing from urban warehouses shook his musical belief system to the core. It was with this combination of experiences that he was to emerge with a focus for forward thinking, original house music, and an underlying interest in sonics, drive and dance-floor dynamics. Toms production work harnesses this ethos, producing solo or more commonly with Lawrence Mohammed. With so many releases currently filling the shelves of our record shops Toms production aesthetic is specifically of quality over quantity. His occasional releases enjoy a level of anticipation by his peers and consequently his music finds its way into the record boxes of DJs right across the Globe. This healthy attitude towards releasing and distributing his music is continued through to the close selection of record labels Tom has chosen his work to be delivered through. His debut release in 2003 was picked up by Terry Francis and Nathan Coles for their Wiggle imprint and subsequent releases have been signed to Brique Rouge and Wrong Recordings.

Faster than Brangelina adopting ethnic babies, sonic:torsion pumps out another edition, starring, me!

Focusing on weird, mellow and slightly eerie sounds, this month’s show brings about a feeling of serene uneasiness… kind of like a hooker in church.

02. Kill Minimal - Cuenta astras [Minimal People]
03. Ung and Bastos - I don’t eat (Tom Clark remix) [Highgrade Digital]

09. Mark Henning - Chav land [Soma]
10. Lars Wickinger - Happy doom day [Bondage Music]
11. Mark Henning - Stash [Soma]

So say your prayers and listen up, or the boogey priest will come after you and make you repent… because every time YOU don’t listen to sonic:torsion, you know who kills a kitten.
Until next time.

4 commentsDeep Intuition 002 - Easy Listening House Edition - July 18, 2008
Greetings, MCast listeners. A bit late with the update, but long story short I have been on the road between Europe and California for about 6 weeks now, far away from my records and decks. To top it off, a family member actually deleted the mix I wanted to post! Fortunately, I roll with a variety of my recent mixes, and so here is something that I hope will do just as well.
So here’s a secret: although a lot of what I release might be called “minimal/tech”, I grew up through various styles of house and prog, and I still like to mix some chill house sets just for my own enjoyment. I haven’t released many of them, but perhaps I may make the House Edition a recurring feature if people enjoy it.
This one features new and quite old tracks, including some of my favorites, such as “Midnight” by Solaris Heights. It’s much more of a housier, chill-out mix that should be good for your summer afternoon by the pool. NOTE: If you care for nothing else in this mix, at least go to the last five minutes of this mix and check out one of the VERY BEST deep house tracks I have ever come across in my almost 8+ years of digging for groovy tracks:
“Backside”, by Playin’ 4 The City.
That’s one track that will never grow old for me.
Enjoy…
1. Ryoh Mitomi – Stranger Than Paradise [Immigrant]
2. Patrick Zigon – Blue in Your Face [Tanzbar Musik]
3. Peter Grummich – November Modulation [Morris Audio]
4. Ripperton – Tainted Words (Plasmik Remix) [Connaisseur Recordings]
5. Ryo Murakami – Down the Sky [Poker Flat]
6. Audiomontage – Bounce 2 the Ounce [Freerange Recordings]
7. D’Julz – Runny (Berkson & What Remix) [Poker Flat]
8. Baaz – Something [Sthlmaudio Recordings]
9. TG – Test It (Jamie Jones Mix) [Infant Recordings]
10. Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia – Lost [Buzzin Fly Records]
11. Solaris Heights – Midnight [Airtight Recordings]
12. Yapacc – Second Life [WIR]
13. Cobblestone Jazz – Peace Offering [Wagon Repair]
14. Playin’ 4 The City – Backside [Tropism Music]

Listen:React015 - Libery Beats - Part 1
Hello and welcome to another installment of Listen:React, this month, as many of you know, here in the US were celebrating our independence, yes, zee 4th of july, and well, what can i say, other than, im ready to BBQ!! but before i go on and about on my grilling adventure, let me tell you that today i have an awesome show for you to enjoy, because as guest, i have this guy that has been putting music out like a mad man, releasing some tunes that just are borderline ridiculous, i mean, the guy simply rocks, thats it, there is no other way of describing this guy’s music. So we being as lucky as we always are, got this 3 hour set from the man himself recorded in Madrid, so please give a round of aplause to none other than:::

Xpansoul
Santiago Ferrer, also known as Xpansul, started djing in 1993. Since then, he has played in most of the biggest clubs and festivals all over Spain and Europe. Xpansul’s sound as a dj is techno, his sets are a journey through electronic dance music, in which the “axis” Detroit-Chicago-Berlin-Cologne is the driver and all his other musical influences are the passengers.
Since 1998, Santi starts writing and producing music as well, getting a really good response from the crowd and critics to his first releases on labels such as Audiodrome, Options, Isoghi, Syl.Label or Soundplant, sometimes working solo and sometimes with his partner Daweed.
In 2003 Xpansul starts his own labels Discos De Lata and MSX manged along Daweed and Miguel Mendoza respectively, which has taken him to a solid position as a producer and label manager on an international level, thanks to the success achieved by his releases on this labels and other releases on Software Records, Sindicato Records and Random Dynamics.
And it was back then when Xpansul met well respected producer Alexi Delano and they started a series of collaborations, both original tracks and remixes, that have been put out on labels such as Plus 8, Truesoul, Frankie Recs Trapez and Leftroom, taking Xpansul one step ahead in his already promising career.
From then on Xpansul’s calendar has become more than busy, hectic, showing his dj skills all over the world and receiving a great, warm welcome everywhere he’s gone. All this, added to his latest releases on Ovum, Soma Quality Recordings, Ad Ltd., Minuendo, or his own Discos De Lata have confirmed Xpansul as a true solid value in the electronic dance music scene worldwide, as an artist that is here to stay.
Sorry kids, this set was recorded live so we have no tracklist available.

As part 2 of my patriotic induced musical journey, i give you a mix i just did. This mix is filled with some of the most america loving beats, i mean, we all know Techno loves america, so as you might imagine, this hour and twenty minutes mix is a true patriot. Well, now, all patriotic sillyness aside, let me tell you that this mix is really nice, filled with some nice techno tunes that youll learn to love very quick.
These beats will kill you!!! well, actually they wont, but im pretty sure that if you listen to them really loud, they can cause some harm, so there you have it, beats that produce harm….. now go on, listen to them.

Presenting 2 hours of fantastically intriguing house music, from myself, Caley Martin.

Featuring 2 hours of about 4 hours live playtime, this month’s show features of a selection of deliciously groovy house cuts that I threw down at a party a few weeks back. Starting off the night with artists such as Metro Area and Baaz, I established a solid groove crescendo with the likes of Tim Fuller, Chris Carrier, Soul Migrantz (and some old school Audio Soul Project to boot). Yum.
So sit back (if you can), turn it up (you know you want to) and listen up (if you’re not already dancing).
See you soon.

3 commentsMercuryRising OXO on MCast - Ryan Hanson (June 2008)

This month I bring to you an exclusive mix from Ryan Hanson. He was featured on my show once before when we resided on MercurySessions, but looking forward he has put together another great mix for me and you. This is an unofficial MercuryRising spot, so that may explain the odd number. Ryan has been making mixes almost exclusively for me for the last year or so, so as a display of respect and thanks to him, he gets his own spot on my show this month. Enjoy!

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Ryan Hanson’s sets are handcrafted works, composed over a matter of several weeks. Through the use of Ableton songs are chopped, layered, rearranged, and often incorporated with contemporary mass-market media to create a progressive beat-oriented audio experience. Quicksilver2, being the second MercuryRising session produced by Hanson, leans towards a low-slung, push-laden sound stretching itself through moments of minimal and techno into progressive, pop, tech-house, and breaks. Please enjoy loudly.
